Many garments can rightly claim to be 100% cashmere, but there can be a big difference in the quality of those garments, which is reflected in the price.
Although in a general sense the best cashmere fibre comes from China, the best of the best comes from specific areas in the remote northern provinces. The difficulty in obtaining this fibre, with its special properties, is the primary reason for the higher price in garments made from this fibre.
By comparison, fibre from other sources, although still cashmere, can be short in length, greater in thickness and contain dark and fawn coloured fibres, which will detract from the appearance when dyed to pale shades. |
