When spinning yarn and producing garments, far greater control over the manufacturing process is required to fully bring out the special fibre properties in the finished garment. This results in increased quality control and manufacturing costs, but the consumer can be confident that paying higher price guarantees the purchase of the best product.
Contrary to public perception the softest cashmere at point of sale may not always be the best quality. Consumers should first look for weight - the volume of cashmere yarn that has gone into the manufacturing of the garment. The general rule is the tighter the knit, the more cashmere yarn has been used to manufacture the garment. Whilst this means the garment will be more expensive, it also means it will retain a much longer life - 10 years or more depending on the weight. It will have less risk of pilling and the feel and handle will actually improve through wear and washing. The weightier garment will be more expensive but it will last much longer. |
